Felony Charges
A crime is considered to be a
felony if it could result in a prison sentence of one year or
more. Other penalties may also apply, such as probation,
conditional discharge, periodic imprisonment, a fine or restitution.
Class
4 Felonies
A person
could be sentenced from 1 to 6 years in the Illinois Department of
Corrections depending upon the person's criminal history.
Probation may be an option for the court to consider as an alternative
to prison.
Class 3
Felonies
A person
could be sentenced from 2 to 10 years in the Illinois
Department of Corrections depending upon the person's criminal
history. Probation may be an option for the court to consider
as an alternative to prison.
Class 2
Felonies
A person
could be sentenced from 3 to 14 years in the Illinois
Department of Corrections depending upon the person's criminal
history. Probation may be an option for the court to consider
as an alternative to prison. However, in certain
circumstances, the person must be sentenced to the Illinois Department
of Corrections.
Class 1
Felonies
A person
could be sentenced from 4 to 30 years in the Illinois
Department of Corrections depending upon the person's criminal
history. Probation may be an option for the court to consider
as an alternative to prison. However, in certain
circumstances, the person must be sentenced to the Illinois Department
of Corrections.
Class X
Felonies
A person
could be sentenced from 6 to 60 years in the Illinois
Department of Corrections depending upon the person's criminal
history. Probation is not an option for the court to consider
as an alternative to prison.
